 About G.L
G.lemaneiformis.Weber-van Bosse also called red algae. It's one kind of Gracilaria Greville in temperate zone. At present, its content of agar is the highest among the known cultured algaes. It's as raw material for extracting, excellent feedstuff for abalone and green health product for human. Meanwhile, this algae has the function of releasing plenty of oxygen to purify the environment of sea zone and relieving the happening of red tide via absorbing nitrogen, phosphorus and CO2 from water.
　　The biologic of this algae is: erection of body in columnar filiform shape. The wet algae is in dark purple color but in black color when it's dried. Pleasant water temperature for its growth is 0℃-25℃. If the water's temperature is over 25℃, it'll start in rotten but once the water' temperature is below 0℃, it'll grow up slowly. The best temperature for its growth is 12℃-18℃ and require the seawater to be more clear. The suitable salinity for it to fit is 3.0%-3.3%. The algae is living by attaching in some fastening objects. It contains much more water, at about 75%-80%. It's living in the surface layer of seawater and needs more long time in the sun.This kind of dry algae contains 18% of agar content.
　　Agar's special character made it has a very special use in food industries. It has the feature of solidifiability, stability, as well as physical chemical character of forming into complexes with some substances. It's widely used as thickening, coagulating, suspending, emulsifying, preserving and stabilizing agent in making various soft drinks, jelly, ice-cream, pastry, soft candy, canned goods, meat products etc. In the chemical industries and physic research, agar can be used as culture medium, ointment medium and other purposes.
